About Our School
McDonald Elementary – Home of the Ducks
Our school was constructed in 1969 and named after past Superintendent A.B. McDonald. Our building has 20 classrooms, a full size gymnasium, a beautiful library, a large music room, an updated computer lab, and special education pods. We are proud of our beautiful facility and surrounding playground which sit on 8 acres. McDonald School serves approximately 350 students in grades K-5 plus we house a developmental preschool. Our class sizes range from 17 to 26 students. McDonald’s excellent teachers and staff are all certified in their fields, many having attained advanced degrees. The principal, Dr. Cindy Bechinski, taught at McDonald from 1989-2000, served as the district Curriculum Director from 2000-2010, and became Principal in 2010.
McDonald School has outstanding classroom teachers and provides an excellent educational program. Our students consistently demonstrate very high levels of academic achievement. For the 2011-2012 school year, the State Department of Education awarded A.B. McDonald Elementary School a Five Star rating–the highest possible. Only 12% of schools received this distinction! The honor is a result of excellence in both student academic achievement and student growth in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language Usage.
We are proud to have full time teachers in the areas of music, physical education, and movement. We also are fortunate to have a full-time library assistant and many other paraprofessionals who help us maintain an exceptionally strong learning environment. McDonald School is very proud of the service it provides for students with special needs, as well as those who qualify for our gifted and talented program. We have a counselor and a school psychologist who are always available for children and families.
In addition to the required curriculum, we have implemented a research-based anti-violence curriculum entitled Second Step and an enhanced character education program designed to nurture the whole child. We have also worked hard to secure grants and artists-in-residence over the years to help our students create amazing works of art that will adorn our school for decades to come. We are all proud of the very well-rounded curriculum we provide!
Special thanks to our truly AMAZING PTO! Our parents are dedicated, supportive, and help us in ways too numerous to mention. We are always so grateful!
